Description:

North America, United States, New Jersey, ca. 1897 CE. A wooden Regina Disc Music Box, serial number 34044, table style # 9, with a single brass disc. Of all the Regina table models, this # 9 is the most ornate and rare since it was a higher end and more expensive than other models. The wood case has gothic tracery carvings and cherub busts, inside the hinged lid is a paper print under glass of an angel with a harp and cherubs, the lower edge is marked "Copyright 1896 by the Regina Music Box Co." The hand crank winds the drive sprocket, which turns the disc. The model 9 came in two movement types, this is the larger 15.5-inch disc, the tune is "O Come, All Ye Faithful." It still plays resonating with a beautiful tone, although there is some note skipping which might be resolved by cleaning the mechanism. The interchangeable disc music box revolutionized the music industry, although it was short lived; between the 1890s until the 1900s, and most music box companies were out of business by 1910! Size: 20.25" L x 17.25" W x 11" H (51.4 cm x 43.8 cm x 27.9 cm)

  • Condition: Functions! The disc does skip on some notes, but the tune is loud and clear! Chips to exterior wood, a few abrasions to edges and some high pointed areas, but overall excellent. Dusting cleaning to mechanisms might produce a smoother sound. Tears and discoloration to the print on the interior of lid. Overall great antique condition. Included is one disc.
