Native American, Western United States, Plains Tribes, Sioux (Oceti Sakowin), ca. 1880 CE. A hide knife sheath beaded with hundreds of colorful hand-stitched glass seed beads adorning the front facing surface. The glass beads of green, red, white, blue, and greasy yellow hues are arranged in geometric designs, the traditional tribal symbols and sometimes personalized symbols of the owner. The piece is displayed in a modern case. Size of sheath: 10" L x 2" W (25.4 cm x 5.1 cm); case: 12.25" L x 8.25" W (31.1 cm x 21 cm)
