Description:

North America, United States, ca. 1870s CE. A brass belt buckle featuring "US" that is encircled and also within a rectangular frame. A narrow loop at one end and a small prong on the verso attaches this to a belt strap. This buckle was army issued as part of a soldier's uniform. The time period when the buckle was made suggests that it may have been worn during the American Indian Wars, a period of conflict over the western frontier. A nice patina covers the surface! Provenance: private Fayetteville, Arkansas, USA collection; ex-Dr. David Harner collection, Springdale, Arkansas, USA, acquired between the 1950s and 1960s
