Description:

**First Time At Auction**

North America, United States, ca. 1862 CE. A very fine Indian Princess Head gold dollar coin set in a brass setting as a wearable pendant. The setting is held in place by a threaded bolt, and fully removable to examine the coin. These gold dollars were relatively small, with a diameter of only 15 millimeters, making them the smallest regular-issue coins in U.S. history. They have a gold quality of 90% (equivalent to 21K+), however, due to their small size and limited purchasing power, they were not widely circulated and were eventually discontinued. The Indian Princess Head gold dollar coins are sought after by collectors today due to their historical significance and unique design, capturing a glimpse of the artistic and numismatic elements of the mid-19th century in the United States. Size w/ setting: 0.61" Diameter (1.5 cm); gold quality: 90% (equivalent to 21K+); weight: 2.1 grams
