A handwritten letter on paper that provides a unique look into the life of a frontiersman traveling to New Orleans with a recently acquired enslaved person. The letter is signed "J.S. L. PETTY" and addressed to "Mr. Jno Hanks or Wyatt Hanks Esq. Miller County Arkansas." The letter is legible (barring the spidery handwriting style) and a modern typed transcript is included. Size: 11.5" L x 7.125" W (29.2 cm x 18.1 cm)
