Description:

Southeast Asia, Vietnam, ca. 17th to 19th century CE. This is a hefty penannular ingot pendant or amulet made from pure iron. The double thick band is shaped as a crescent, tapering to narrow tips that create a small gap opening. The surface is polished and unetched and has developed some lovely dark toning and age related patina. This piece was excavated in Vietnam and may be a type of iron ingot that could be worn or easily carried to have on hand to melt and mold into a desired tool or object. Testing reveals 99% pure unadulterated refined iron and weighs 1.2 lb. or 0.54 kg! Size: 3.88" Diameter x 1.18" W (9.9 cm x 3 cm); (interior): 2.22" Diameter (5.6 cm); (gap opening): 0.78" W (2 cm)
