Description:

Spain, ca. 17th century. Rare and quite wonderful iron brazier. Certainly used in religious rites, the scallops a representation of Saint James who took his ministry to the Iberian Peninsula and to this day is the Patron Saint of Spain. Circular upper section open in the center for the copper basin with 8 applied scallop shells, supported by pierced and scrolling straps, joined by bands and embellished with buttresses of square sections. Brass basin of the period, perhaps not original to the piece. Size: 28" W x 11.125" H (71.1 cm x 28.3 cm)
