South Asia, Southern India, ca. 17th to 18th century CE. A solid copper figurine depicting Krishna as the "Butter Thief" in the form of a dancing child, holding a lump of ghee or butter in his raised right hand. According to scripture, Krishna and his older brother Balarama, known for their playful mischief, would steal jars of butter and yogurt from family and neighbors. When caught by a neighbor, Krishna danced to seek forgiveness. Size: 2" W x 2.5" H (5.1 cm x 6.4 cm); 3" H (7.6 cm) on included custom stand.
