Description:

Northern Europe, England, ca. 17th century CE. A nice leaded-bronze cauldron vessel resting on three legs. The squat body supports two angular handles that connect to the rim. The legs are embellished with incised chevron shapes that point upward. The body exhibits rigorous signs of use with old repairs on the body and a lovely patina. While this vessel may conjure images of witches and wizards huddling over a bubbling brew, cauldrons like this example were popular household items for cooking over a fire from the medieval period up until the 18th century. Size: 14.375" W x 11" H (36.5 cm x 27.9 cm)

Provenance: ex-estate of Eldert Bontekoe, Pegasi Numismatics, Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA acquired before 2000
