Description:

Europe, England or English colonies, ca. 1600 to 1660 CE. A handsome iron-carbon spur with a large, spiked rowel and a thin, curved body, a long, gently curved neck, curved arms, and two hanging hooks on one terminal and one hanging hook and one asymmetrical buckle on the other. Changes in spurs over time are well documented by portraits, historical accounts, and surviving examples. This form was used for horseback riding as well as for daily wear and walking. They were also a fashion statement for their wearers. Size: 5.5" L x 3.2" W x 2.25" H (14 cm x 8.1 cm x 5.7 cm); 5.55" H (14.1 cm) on included custom stand.
