Description:

Northern Europe, Netherlands, ca. 1600 to 1750 CE. A fantastic forged-steel helmet known as a morion with a broad, domed form, a tall comb, and a curved brim. The front and back tips of the brim are dramatically pointed upward in the traditional style of morion helmets. Rosette shaped rivets are placed along the dome just above the brim. The purpose of the central comb was to protect the wearer from strikes coming from directly above like a pike or sword slash to create a buffer between the weapon and the dome portion over the soldier’s head. A strip of leather is riveted to the interior to make the helmet more comfortable for the wearer. This helmet is well preserved with nice areas of patina. Size: 10.25" W x 11" H (26 cm x 27.9 cm)
