Important and rare painting on heavy paper.   Pu Tuo Shan (or Putuo Shan) rises in the center, surrounded by a portion of the sea, adorants, monks and livestock in the field.  "Putuo" is a Chinese name for "Potalaka," the place where Avalokiteshvara (Guanyin) resides according to Buddhism. Putuo Mountain is known as 'Buddhist country amidst sea and sky'. It is also referred to as 'Oceanside paradise and Buddhist realm' and as 'The first sacred place in the world'. In addition, Putuo Mountain is not only the national center of Guanyin pilgrimage, but also the international pilgrimage center of Guanyin of the South Sea.  Putuo is one of the four sacred mountains according to the Buddhist doctrine.  Painting is faintly signed in the lower right corner. Size:  Painting is 22" x 17" with professional, high cost frame measuring 29-3/4" x 24-1/4". Provenance: Ex-Burns Collection acquired in the 1950's to 1970's.
