Western Europe, probably France or Italy, Baroque period, ca. 17th to 18th century CE. A beautiful sardonyx cameo depicted a nude male youth seated on a cuirass and leaning on an upright shield, all set in a minimalist ring of over 20 karat gold. Boasting a hue of creamy white atop a base of light rose pink, the figure sits atop the armor in a dynamic pose reminiscent of the Belvedere Torso with his right leg outstretched to the left, the other bent at the knee, and his flank twisted to turn his head to the right. His right arm drops down to lean on shield while his left arm rests on his knee, holding a stylus in his hand. Size: 0.8" L x 0.6" W (2 cm x 1.5 cm); of ring: 0.8" Diameter (2 cm); US ring size: 4.5; gold quality: 86.39% (equivalent to over 20 karats); weight: 6.6 grams
