Mexico, ca. 17th-18th Century CE. Mounted on a 4 or 5 meters long pole, this hocking knife (desjarretadera) was used to cut the tendon of the hind leg of cattle fleeing on the open range. When disabled and no longer able to flee, the cowboy would leap from his horse to kill and butcher the beast. 7x6x1"
