Description:

Western Europe, England, Georgian era, ca. 1797 CE. A beautiful and intriguing gilt silver ring inlaid with 23 pearls and a glass disc covering a recessed bezel face. This is a mourning or memorial ring to commemorate a loved one who had died. The interior is engraved: "Sarah Siddons from WCM in memoriam 1797." Size of bezel: 0.75" L (1.9 cm); band opening: 0.69" Diameter (1.8 cm); US ring size 6.5; gold quality: 3% to 38.6% (equivalent to 1K to 9K+); silver quality: 19.2% to 75%; weight: 4.6 grams

Sarah Siddons (1755-1831) was a famous Welsh actress of the Georgian era, however it is unclear if this ring belonged to either her or her daughter Sarah (Sally) Martha Siddons (1775-1803). The initials WCM do not readily match any immediate family members of the actress' family.
