Description:

Southeast Asia, Vietnam, Chu Dau, Le Dynasties, 15th to 16th CE. An elegantly crafted and painted porcelain bottle decorated with avian and floral motifs across its exterior. The craquelure filled white porcelain presents the perfect backdrop for the lively portrayal of a pair of repeated songbirds accented by colorful repeating floral arrangements - utilizing shades of blue, burnt orange, yellow and green. The vessel has a piriform shape featuring a slender neck with a deeply flared lip. An excellent composition in exemplary condition. Size: 6.2" W x 10.5" H (15.7 cm x 26.7 cm)

Chu Dau ceramics, in the Nam Sach County east of Hanoi, was discovered in 1983. The village is estimated to have begun production in the 13th century, reaching a peak in the 15th and 16th centuries, and declining in the 17th century. In 2000 Chu Dau ceramics made world news when thousands of pieces were discovered in a sunken ship off Hoi An.
