Southeast Asia, Thailand, Ayutthaya Kingdom, ca. 16th to 17th century CE. A gilt brass hand from a statue of the Buddha in the traditional Abhaya Mudra, the gesture of protection with fingers extended and held together as the hand points upwards. The cylindrical wrist indicates this hand was placed in the wrist of a large statue of Buddha at one time. Size: 2.5" L x 3" W x 7.5" H (6.4 cm x 7.6 cm x 19 cm); 9.5" H (24.1 cm) on included custom stand.

Provenance: private Hawaii, USA collection, acquired from 2000 to 2010
