Description:

Europe, Scotland, ca. 16th century CE. An impressive Scottish iron bill halberd (two-handled pole weapon) head, with a surface that has aged so gracefully, boasting a smooth, dark patina. The word halberd is believed to derive from the German Halm (meaning staff) and Barte (meaning axe). The fierce weapon is comprised of an axe blade that is topped by a spike mounted on a long shaft. The hook on the back of this weapon was used for close struggles with mounted combatants. Similar halberds were used by the Scottish clansmen in the blockbuster film "Braveheart"! Size: 13" L x 3.5" W (33 cm x 8.9 cm).
