Description:

Eastern Europe, Russia, ca. 16th century CE. A fantastic grouping of one-hundred-and-sixteen struck coins with oblong forms and varying colors of aged silver. The front sides depict a finely-garbed man, perhaps a king, riding a horse and holding a long spear in one hand. The other sides display several rows of Cyrillic text which have been rendered illegible over time. These coins were found amongst a hoard of 444 coins in the Russian city of Tyer, and are all quite beautiful! Size of largest (all fairly similar in size): 0.5" W (1.3 cm); grade of silver: 92% or less.
