Europe, probably Italian, ca. 1550 CE. This is a bronze corpulent nude youth standing with his left leg advancing, his right arm raised, and his left arm on a shield. He stands on white marble base. The putto or cherub figure originated classical period and they are associated with child sarcophagi; they experienced a revival in the Renaissance period, especially in the remarkable intellectual and artistic environment of 15th century Italy. Donatello began creating them and they became common decorations in both religious and secular artworks. Size: 1.15" W x 2.7" H (2.9 cm x 6.9 cm)

Provenance: Ex-German Collector G. K. acquired 1990s.
