Description:

East Asia, Korea, Choson Dynasty (also called Yi Dynasty), ca. 16th century CE. A lovely example of Korean Punch'ong or Buncheong ware - a traditional form of stoneware with light green celadon glaze and incised decoration. In this example, we see floral motifs adorning the body and a register of stylized leaf motifs embellishing the shoulder. While Goryeo celadon wares may be considered somewhat more refined, buncheong vessels were intended to be more unassuming and natural in their aesthetic. Size: 7" in diameter x 12.875" H (17.8 cm x 32.7 cm)

Provenance: private California, USA collection acquired prior to 2005; ex-private collection of a British Gentleman
