East Asia, Korea, Joseon / Chosun dynasty, ca. 1392 to 1897 CE, but most likely 16th to 17th century. Lovely glazed pottery lidded vessel decorated in a dark gray over tan. Central register is in a positive "black-figure" pattern showing twin confronting Phoenix's or pheasants on each side with floral elements interspersed between. Repeating flower petals adorn the base and negative resist patterns of flying avians adorns the upper rim, Greek key along the neck. Finally, the matching lid is adorned with a single abstract flower. A lovely example! Size: 7" in diameter x 8" H (17.8 cm x 20.3 cm)
