Description:

Roman, Imperial period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A gorgeous ring that unites an ancient Roman dark green jasper intaglio and a modern 16K gold setting. The intaglio, of an oval form set in a ridged gold bezel, features a Hoplite soldier - his plumed helmet, tunic, and shield clearly visible. The shank of the ring is comprised of a central twisted rope-patterned band flanked by two smooth bands with openings between them gradually closing as the bands gradually meet at the underside of the wearer's finger. Size: ring measures .75" in diameter (1.9 cm); size of intaglio: .45" L x .375" W (1.1 cm x 1 cm); total weight: 7.9 grams; US ring size: 2.5; gold quality 16K.

  • Condition: Intaglio is ancient and gold setting is modern. The intaglio has some expected scratching on the surface commensurate with age, but in general is in very nice condition with well preserved motifs. The gold setting has minor surface scratches, but is otherwise excellent.
