Description:

East Asia, Japan, Edo period, ca. 18th to 19th century. A rare and quite exquisite pair of Japanese sword menuke custom fitted in a 16 karat gold setting of a triangular design (perhaps representing an abstract mountainside) with a 3 to 4 point diamond adorning the peak, resulting in a beautiful pair of wearable earrings. Menukes are the decorative elements found under the Ito (hilt wrapping) on Samurai swords of all varieties. These menukes are comprised of cast bronze scenes - one depicting two figures at a table - perhaps a mother reading to her child, the other depicting a tea house in a lovely landscape setting - with ample gilded details. Absolutely lovely and wearable! Weight: 11.5 grams Size: tea house & landscape earring measures .75" L x 1.75" W (1.9 cm x 4.4 cm); figures at table earring measures .75" L x 1.5" W (1.9 cm x 3.8 cm)
