Description:

Annamese (sometimes Anamese), modern day Vietnam, ca. 15th to 16th century CE. This is a brown and pine green glazed pedestal bowl with a flared foot and linear banded green decorations around the exterior and interior; the interior sides of the bowl have triangular designs that look like evergreen trees. Annamese ware was inspired by Chinese artisans -- in fact, the first known factory, built in 1465 in Bac-ninh, was probably settled by the Chinese. Size: 8.5" W x 5" H (21.6 cm x 12.7 cm).

Provenance: Ex-private Smith collection, California, acquired before 1985.
