Description:

Eastern Europe, Russia, ca. 15th century CE. A rare double-sided cast bronze cross with rounded arms and a loop at the top for suspension. On both sides, each arm of the cross contains a different scene around a central motif inside a diamond border that depicting Christ. On one side, he is crucified, while on the other he is shown as a teacher, arms outspread. Cyrillic lettering is visible but generally not readable (on one side, it is possible to read that it says "IC" and "XC", the abbreviation for Christ, in the central motif). The cross most likely once had inlaid enamel, a popular style in Russia from the 13th century onward. This could easily be wearable! Size: 2.25" W x 3.4" H (5.7 cm x 8.6 cm)
