Description:

South Asia, Southern India, ca. 15th to 16th century CE. A finely cast bronze statue of the deity Krishna playing a flute, standing upon an integral pedestal base. The loops on the base may have been used to secure the statue in place for display in a shrine. The story of the young Krishna playing his flute originates from the Bhagavata Purana, where Krishna's flute music preserves dharma as he defeats demons. Size: 2.25" L x 1.75" W x 6" H (5.7 cm x 4.4 cm x 15.2 cm)
