Description:

Western Europe, Renaissance Period, ca. 15th to 16th century CE. A beautiful gilt brass chalice stem exhibiting a prominent knop adorned with 6 enameled glass medallion inlays. Supported by a hexagonal collar and thick lower stem, the knop displays 6 projecting medallions - 3 black and 3 blue - all featuring male portraits of alternating figures, perhaps intended as Baby Jesus surrounded by 5 apostles or saints. An incised triangular design further embellishes the knop, appearing as a 6-petalled flower from above. Size: 2.3" Diameter x 3.2" H (5.8 cm x 8.1 cm)
