Description:

Southeast Asia, Thailand, Sukhothai to Ayutthaya Period, ca. 14th to 18th century CE. A charming Sangkhalok ceramic jar in the form of two ducks with conjoined bodies that create a globular vessel. The birds rest on a short ring base, and a small spout rises from the center of their backs with two petite handles flanking the neck. Two tails protrude from the rear end and incised lines create plumage on the tail and wings. The surface is glazed in a cool white hue with an iron-brown glaze highlighting the details. Sangkhalok is a traditional type of glazed pottery developed in the Sukhothai kingdom period and usually glazed in the iconic "kai ka" or olive-green color. The glaze here has developed a nice craquelure, or should I say "quack-quelure." Size: 4" W x 3" H (10.2 cm x 7.6 cm)
