Description:

East Asia, China, Yuan to early Ming Dynasty, ca. 14th century CE. A yuhuchun style vase resting on a thick ring foot and octagonal sides, showcasing the elegance of traditional Chinese ceramic design. The surface is underglazed in a soft gray-blue hue, with floral patterns that likely represent the "flowers of the four seasons." These flowers symbolize the changing seasons: Peony for Spring, Lotus for Summer, Chrysanthemum for Autumn, and Plum Blossom for Winter. The careful execution of these motifs reflects the harmony between nature and the passing of time, a theme prevalent in Chinese art. The yuhuchun form, known for its graceful proportions, was a popular vessel type during this period and often used for both decorative and ceremonial purposes. Size: 8" H x 5" Diameter (20.3 cm x 12.7 cm)

Provenance: private Ventura County, California, USA collection, before 2000; ex-private Pinole, California, USA collection
