Description:

East Asia, China, Ming Dynasty, ca. 1368 to 1644 CE. A pair of pottery tomb attendant heads: 1 male and 1 female. Adorned in black, white, peach, and red pigments, both present ovoid visages, each with a fine-lined brow, delineated pupils, a bulbous nose, petite lips, and full cheeks, all flanked by a pair of elongated ears. The pair differs, however, in their headgear as the female wears a thick headband encircling a helmet-like headdress with an openwork adornment at the top, while the male dons a towering, flared and flat-topped cap. Size of larger (female): 1.9" Diameter x 5.6" H (4.8 cm x 14.2 cm)
