Description:

Southeast Asia, Thailand, Sukhothai Kingdom, ca. 13th to 14th century CE. A charming, hand-built pottery sculpture of a cow displaying a thick body supported by 4 slender legs and a naturalistic visage, all adorned in white glaze with black spots. Capped by a pair of curved horns, the ancient creature's head is comprised of a long snout with drilled nostrils, applied, annular eyes, and petaloid ears. A pinched ridge is featured on the animal's back, while a thin, black tail protrudes from its posterior. Size: 7" L x 2.75" W x 6.25" H (17.8 cm x 7 cm x 15.9 cm)

Provenance: ex Ashland University Museum, Ashland, Ohio, USA, donated to Ashland University between July 1994 to December 1998
