Eastern Europe, Russia, ca. 13th to 14th century CE. A stunning gilt silver pendant setting inlaid with 8 faceted diamonds and a late Medieval era bronze crucifix. The slightly raised face of the cross may have once been a Christ figure that was surrounded with enamel inlays; enameling bronze icons such as this was a popular in Russia from the 13th century onward. The antique bronze is set in a modern 89% silver and gilt pendant setting that is further embellished with faceted diamonds in pronged bezel setting, and the bail is also inlaid with diamonds. This pendant is wearable - strung on a modern cord that can easily be switched to a gold chain to match the decadent setting!
