Description:

Southeast Asia, Indonesia, Java, Majapahit Empire, ca. 1293 to 1527 CE. A beautiful mold-made pottery head, a fragment from a larger statue, in the form of a young woman. Her rounded head is very detailed with incised brows and the delicate strands of hair framing her head are centrally-parted then curl behind the ears which draws attention to her prominent earrings. The Majapahit was a major Hindu-Buddhist empire, their artwork focused chiefly on gods, goddesses, and royalty. Size: 2" L x 2" W (5.1 cm x 5.1 cm); 3.25" H (8.3 cm) on included custom stand.
