Southeast Asia, Indonesia, East Java, Majapahit Empire, ca. 1293 to 1527 CE. A charming pair of clay birds rendered naturalistically, each with tucked wings, an elongated neck, and delineated plumage. The larger is shown seated with a curved beak, huge eyes, and prominent wing edges. Alternatively, the other avian stands, cocking his head to the side and displaying a tapered beak, annular eyes, and a downwards-pointing tail. Size of larger: 4.5" W x 7" H (11.4 cm x 17.8 cm)

  • Condition: Larger has losses to feat, wings, tail, base, and back of head, as well as repair and restoration to the neck. More petite bird has repair and restoration to neck and losses to proper right wing and part of tail. Both have light surface wear. Otherwise, both are nice with great remaining detail. Old collection labels inscribed on bases of both.
