Description:

Western Europe, England, late Medieval period, ca. 13th to 14th century CE. A cast-bronze triangular pendant in the form of a shield with broad checkered rectangles displayed across the front. Intersecting some of the rectangles is an upward-pointing chevron inlaid with red-orange enamel that contrasts nicely atop the green and red-brown patina of the shield body. The verso bears a thick pin that curves diagonally up towards one of the upper shield points. This pendant was purportedly owned by the Stodham Family of Medieval England. Size: 1.3" W x 1.55" H (3.3 cm x 3.9 cm)

  • Condition: Nicks and chipping to peripheries and enamel inlays, with light encrustations along some obverse details, and bending to pin on verso as shown, otherwise intact and very good. Nice remains of enamel inlays and patina throughout.
