Southeast Asia, Thailand, Dvaravati to early Ayutthaya period, ca. 12th to 13th century CE. A lovely cast-bronze Buddha head fragment with a pottery core. The serene facial expression consists of closed almond-shaped meditative eyes, gracefully arched brows that merge into finely delineated nose, pursed full lips, characteristically elongated ears, and tightly curled hair nodes. The surface is covered in a wonderful green and coppery patina. Size: 2.5" L x 1.75" W (6.4 cm x 4.4 cm); 4" H (10.2 cm) on included custom stand.

This piece has been tested using thermoluminescence (TL) analysis and has been found to be ancient and of the period stated. A full printed and bound report is available to the buyer upon request.

Provenance: ex-Nancy and Dr. E.F. Simpson collection, Los Angeles, California, USA, acquired from 1970 to 2000
