Description:

Western Asia, probably made in Khorasan, eastern Persian (Iran) and western Afghanistan, Seljuk (Seljuq) period, ca. 12th to 13th century CE. A cast leaded brass mirror of a discoid form with a pair of abstract, human-headed feline creatures within the tondo. The flat mirror has a raised peripheral ridge that encloses a ring of Kufic script as well as a central floral bulb with a laterally perforated suspension hole. Each abstract zoomorph is defined by a feminine face atop a muscular quadruped body with a segmented, scorpion-like tail, and the animals are surrounded by sinuous floral motifs in low relief.
