Description:

Near East or Central Asia, Persia, Khorassan, Seljuq (Saljuq/Seljuk) period, ca. 12th to 13th century CE. A whimsical cast-brass container used to hold the eye cosmetic kohl. The vessel rests atop a quartet of sinuous legs with peacock finials facing inward around a slightly lobed body and slender neck with a broad rim. Kohl vessels like this example were typically accompanied by slender applicators that rested inside the neck and doubled as stoppers. Size: 3.5" L x 6.25" H (8.9 cm x 15.9 cm)
