Description:

Western/Central Asia, probably made in Khorasan, east Persia (Iran) / west Afghanistan, Seljuk (Seljuq) period, ca. 12th to 13th century CE. A gorgeous bowl made from beige pottery enveloped in brilliant turquoise-hued glaze in a distinctive style known as Bamiyan ware (also Bamyan). The bowl exhibits broad walls with a flared rim that create the shallow basin, and the flat base keeps the vessel steady. Thick blue-green glaze covers the exterior walls, rim, and basin surfaces, and within the basin are four abstract curvilinear patterns made from darker glaze.
