Description:

Western Asia, probably made in Khorasan, eastern Persian (Iran) and western Afghanistan, Seljuk (Seljuq) period, ca. 12th to 13th century CE. A gorgeous hammered-brass bowl of large form with a flat circular base, a corseted body, and a flared rim surrounding the shallow basin. A wide border of animated Kufic script adorns the upper interior walls of this elegant vessel, with a series of light waved lines incised along the rim. The basin boasts a beautiful motif which includes a central flower encased by a braided ribbon pattern forming six concentric circle patterns that are then encompassed by a thick band with radiating tapered striations from triangular upper elements. Thick areas of patina imbue the bowl with an elegant presentation. A wonderful example of Seljuk visual culture! Size: 13" Diameter x 4" H (33 cm x 10.2 cm)
