Ancient Near East, Northeast Iran, Nishapur, ca. second half of 12th century CE. Large and quite exceptional molded pottery ewer glazed in a deep cobalt blue. Two bands of animals showing tigers and their prey. Lower band features 5 deer or deer-like creatures grazing among a floral field. Upper band shows two tigers and an antelope, also set in a highly decorated floral field. Pinched spout and strap handle with base showing the thickness of this lovely glaze. Size: 9.75" W x 13.25" H (24.8 cm x 33.7 cm)
