Islamic, Greater Iran, Afghanistan, 12th to 14th century CE. Rare and quite fine unglazed pottery pitcher from a region that was under Iranian control during this Islamic period. Six-sided pouring vessel on stippled raised foot, each of the six square panels stamped with identical motif of winged lion and two bands of Kufic text. Shoulder of vessel with additional Kufic text. Strap handle and round rim. A very nice example. Size: 4.75" W x 7.5" H (12.1 cm x 19 cm)

Provenance: private California, USA collection, by descent, moved from Germany in 1997, originally collected in the 1970s in Hamburg, Germany
