Description:

Central Asia, Persia, Ghaznavid Empire, ca. 11th century CE. A wonderful pair of bronze ladles, each presenting an ovoid bowl and a lengthy, slender stem engraved with rings and circles on the finials. The finial has a pear-shaped profile with an elongated pointed tip. The lower stem and neck are also incised with a striated and circular patterning. The interior of the bowls and surfaces throughout both have accumulated earthen and mineral deposits and areas of green patina, attesting to their age when they rested in the earth. Size of largest: 9.5" L x 3" W (24.1 cm x 7.6 cm)

  • Condition: Tearing and fissure on the basin on one ladle, and the other ladle is intact. Surface abrasions consistent with age, use and exposure. Earthen and mineral encrustations throughout. Nice areas of green patina.
