Description:

Near East, Persia, Turkey and Iran, Islamic culture, ca. 11th to 13th century CE. A set of 3 hand-built pottery bowls covered in layers of colorful glaze. The first bowl is of circular form with several exterior notches, and the second vessel is a shallow, cream-ground plate decorated with green foliage and a red-brown hexagonal ring. The largest vessel features a register of scrolling, yellow-hued vines across the exterior as well as a deep, emerald-green interior. Size of largest: 6.2" W x 3.75" H (15.7 cm x 9.5 cm)

Provenance: private Santa Fe, New Mexico, USA collection, inherited via grandfather, who collected before 1980

  • Condition: Both larger vessels with stabilization to 1 fissure; smaller vessel with small chips but otherwise intact. Each vessel with light earthen deposits and minor fading to glaze pigment in scattered areas, otherwise in nice condition. Great glaze coloration remaining.
