Description:

South Asia, India, Rajasthan, ca. 11th century CE. A splendid stone sculpture, possibly from a column or made to decorate a wall, showing a scene of male nudes in an elaborate architectural setting. A central nude male figure holding a scepter sits in half lotus position displaying the Mudra of peace with the right hand held out and the palm facing outwards. A pair of nude young men peek out from the columns on either side of him. They stand on a beautifully-decorated platform above 3 other nude figures, one of whom may be the Buddha based on what is perhaps a large ushnisha atop his head. Size: 5.8" W x 10.7" H (14.7 cm x 27.2 cm); 14" H (35.6 cm) on included custom stand.
