Native American, United States, ca. 9th to 21st century CE. An assortment of Native American artifacts and sale items from many time periods and from across the United States: Alaska Inuit, midwestern Iowa, Minnesota, Plains tribes, ancient southwestern Hohokam, Mimbres, and Zuni Pueblo. Included is a catlinite stone ring shaped carving, a black stone bead, stone pendant, a carved shell eagle, 2 deer antler fetishes, a polished walrus ivory fragment, an adorable antler turtle inlaid with turquoise stones and black glass beads, a carved bone & brass hairpipe bead necklace, a Mimbres bone awl stick, and a miniature Hohokam stone bowl / grinder mortar. One deer antler carved fetish depicts Avanyu (also Awanyu) or Kolowisi, a plumed serpent deity and a protector of the Pueblo people. The surface is etched to resemble a diamondback rattlesnake and a white feather is attached to the neck by a thread. Size of antler snake: 6" L x 0.75" W (15.2 cm x 1.9 cm)
