A fascinating round applique, made to be hammered at four points into the face of a wooden shield, made of 94% pure silver with a partially gilt surface. Three registers of dramatic figures are on the face depict a relief scene of combat and mayhem set inside a braided border. Three of the original copper nails remain. Size: 3.25" W (8.3 cm); 86 g
