Description:

Northern Europe, Scandinavia, Viking or Norse culture, ca. 10th century CE. A cast-bronze brooch of penannular form with a spiralized body and abstract dragon heads comprising the terminals. A pin has one end folded around the brooch body that allows it to move freely along the brooch body. Layers of green and brown patina cover the accessory while one petite area reveals the lustrous golden bronze color beneath. Size (brooch): 1.3" L x 1.4" W (3.3 cm x 3.6 cm); (pin): 1.8" L (4.6 cm)

Provenance: private Lindenhurst, Illinois, USA collection, acquired from Artemission, London, England on April 21, 2014; ex-property of an English gentleman, acquired in the 1980s
