Description:

Ancient Near East / Western Asia, northwestern Iran, Persia, city of Amol, Ziyarid Dynasty, ca. 930 to 1090 CE. A beautiful pottery bowl with a flat base, tall walls that terminate in a thin rim, and a basin surface glazed with brown and yellow hues in a style called sari ware. Displayed within the basin is a highly abstract yet captivating image of a yellow-brown bird and fish meeting at their mouths atop a cream ground color and minimalist fineline motifs. A decorative orange circle opposite the animals is encased in black spots, and areas of dark purple stippling are interspersed around the rim. Lucite display stand for photography purposes only.   • Condition: Repaired from multiple pieces, with areas of restoration along upper rim and lower body, and resurfacing with overpainting along new material and break lines. Abrasions and fading to original glaze pigment, with light pitting and encrustations. Nice remains of original glaze pigment within basin.
